523-HP 2021 BMW X7 M50i Gets Ultra-Exclusive Dark Shadow Edition

  • BMW is offering 600 of its 2021 X7 M50i three-row SUVs worldwide and 75 in the U.S. in a blacked-out Dark Shadow Edition appearance package.
  • It’s painted in Frozen Arctic Grey matte metallic and is equipped with 22-inch matte Jett Black wheels.
  • Pricing starts at $ 120,490, and they’re available to pre-order now with a refundable $ 1000 deposit.

BMW doesn’t currently have a high-performance M version of its big X7 three-row SUV, but it does have the 523-hp M50i model, which is currently in our long-term fleet, and BMW specialist Alpina has the 612-hp XB7. The M50i comes at a hefty $ 100,595 starting price, though (our test car rings in at $ 113,845). Now BMW is adding an ultra-exclusive matte black Dark Shadow Edition to the lineup, with only 75 of them available to buy in the United States.

It’s really just an appearance package, though, finished in Frozen Arctic Grey matte metallic paint with gloss-black trim, and it sits on 22-inch matte Jett Black wheels. The exhaust tips are also finished in black chrome, and it’s an M50i, so it has the M Sport exhaust, brakes, differential, and adaptive M suspension.

The Dark Shadow edition can be ordered in either six- or seven-passenger configurations, and it’s equipped with heated and cooled front massaging seats, heated rear seats, and the Executive package, which adds a panoramic LED sunroof, heated and cooled cupholders, and glass controls. The seats are wrapped in two-tone Night Blue and back full Merino leather with contrast stitching, and the dash, doors, and armrests are trimmed in the Night Blue leather, while the lower dash and front seatbacks are covered in black leather.

The BMW X7 M50i is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 that produces 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, which also powers the smaller X5 M50i. During Car and Driver testing, our long-term test car launched to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and raced through the quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds at 110 mph.

The 2021 BMW X7 M50i Dark Shadow Edition is available for pre-order now with a refundable $ 1000 deposit. Pricing starts at $ 120,490—just under $ 20,000 more than the starting price of an X7 M50i—and production will start at the end of the year, meaning they’ll arrive then or early next year.
